Sunday Afternoon, a very special collaborative neighbourhood event series inspired by the Emergent Berlin Festival. (Facebook)

We are happy to invite change-makers and neighbours from all over to a new event series called “Sunday Afternoon”. The idea is quite simple: Once per month, the good people at art loft berlin would like to bring together other good people who would like to meet each other and find out how we can all collaborate with and support each other in our efforts to make our neighbourhoods and Berlin more connected, balanced and satisfying places to live work and play.

Each session will feature live music to help inspire and catalyze more emergent behaviour between guests. This time around “appletreeo” a local Berlin jazz trio will keep the good energy flowing. Future events will also feature different artists, designers and other creative inspirations to spark more quality interactions.

There will also be an “Open Greeting Zone” area at every event where its possible to introduce yourself to anyone and expect the same in return!

Entrance is free, the bar will be run by Gin Events and part of the proceeds from the bar will go towards supporting the Baumhaus project. This event will also be a platform for other local projects and people who want to gain more exposure, support and broaden their networks. Email baumhausberlin@gmail.com for more info.

Last week we had a great time with our adventures gathering materials form the Stattbad Wedding to give them some new life at Das Baumhaus. Thanks so much to Jochen Küpper for being our guide and historian!

Before we went gathering we enjoyed a North German green curry with fresh bio veggies from our local farmer just outside of Berlin. If you live in Wedding then stay tuned, we will be accepting new people inot our group soon…

After gathering wood, we had a really nice vocal improv groove session. It went so well that we are now going to start back up on a regular basis and even form an expert group for people who would llike to jam out and perform!

The last images are form the Share Fair 2015. It was like a big family reunion of hundreds of relatives in the sharing and sustainability community in Berlin. Bravo to all the organizers, sponsors and participants!

Dezember 2 – Vertikaler Garten und Permakultur :: Zweites Planungstreffen

Wir machen weiter mit der Planung des Vertikalen Gartens am 02.12 um 19:00 Uhr: Wir wollen an Konzepten für ästhetisches Design, Pflanzenarten und Bewässerungssysteme weiterarbeiten, die wir beim ersten Treffen entwickelt haben. Wir sind gespannt und freuen uns auf Euch!

Nov 30 – Dez 4  general sessions – Helft mit bei unseren Bauarbeiten

Last week started out with continuing to prototype our bar/kitchen = “bitchen”. Then we did some “prototype testing” of the bar function after an all day vertical and permaculture garden development workshop that started out with an organic vegan brunch!

On Sunday we helped art loft berlin prototype a new event series called “Sunday Afternoon”. A networking and socializing event catalysed by live jazz performances for good people who want make good things happen; next one is Dec 13 with a Baumhaus Open Greeting Zone!

This will be the first of a wonderful series of events to support local community engagement.  We would like to thank our hosts, art loft berlin and Gin Events because they have graciously offered to donate some proceeds from the bar to support Das Baumhaus!  Stay tuned for the official invitations…

In Germany, residents tend to be very diligent at recycling their waste. Despite its high recycling rate (64 %) the country is one of the largest waste generators in Europe. In our neighbourhood Berlin-Wedding we are witnessing the effects every day while piles of rubbish are building up in the streets including abandoned tellevision sets on the sidewalk.

Dematerialisation: Doing more with less

We want to make a change and rise awareness on the importance of waste reduction. Reduce, reuse and recycle: Everyone can make a difference for the benefit of the environment by participating in our activities. The whole programme was developed by the neighbourhood & transition town initiative “Weddingwandler“, the community garden “himmelbeet” and the project room “Baumhaus“.

Looking for wastewatchers: During the Week for Waste Reduction we are organising a ZeroWaste Challenge, a guided tour on garbage free grocery shopping, you can build your own Bokashikitchen compost bucket or visit the waste-to-energy plant Ruhleben. Join us and find out whether you will miss the full dustbin!
