AWAKE follows the dramatic rise of the native-led peaceful resistance at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation near Cannon Ball, North Dakota against the Dakota Access Oil Pipeline (DAPL).
Under the sloagn #NODAPL indigenous activists fought for their ecological sources of life, their land and clean water, but also for their right of self-determination. Thousands of activists converged from around the USA and from the entire world to stand in solidarity with the water protectors. Standing Rock became a symbol and a source of inspiration for the global climate justice movement. The film tells the dramatic story of the protests in the perspective of the activists and camp community.
On April 22nd, Earth Day, the documentary from directors Josh Fox, James Spione and Myron Dewey, premiered at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. We bring AWAKE and the #NODAPL resistance as a community screening to Berlin.
